WSU Vancouver will recognize Minoru Yasui, posthumous recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in Dengerink Administration Building, Room 110. Father and son George and Darren Nakata of Portland will share stories about Yasui, and explore how lessons from his life can be applied to social justice work today. President Obama awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Yasui for challenging the forced incarceration of people of Japanese ancestry during World War II and for his lifelong commitment to civil rights and social justice. He is the first Oregonian to be honored with a named day (Minoru Yasui Day is March 28) in Oregon in perpetuity. The event is free and open to all. A limited number of parking passes are available.
