Speakers: Jennifer Dickison, WIC Coordinator for Clark County & Yasmina Aknin, Healthy Communities Program Coordinator
Moderator: Tricia Pace, Sea Mar Community Health Centers
Panelists: Hester Carr (Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist at Legacy Health), Jamie Erdman (Owner Thatcher's Coffee), & Melissa Martin (Clark County Public Health).
About the panelists:
Hester Carr is a Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist at Legacy Health. With a Masters in Nursing from the University of Washington, she is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse whose function is to improve outcomes in patient care. Hester lead Legacy Health’s Baby-Friendly Breastfeeding Designation effort culminating in the achievement of this honor in 2015 for the six-hospital system. A member of the Oregon Perinatal Collaborative, Hester sits on the Regional Advisory Board for the Maternal Data Center. She holds the Nursing position on the board of the Oregon Patient Safety Commission.
Jamie Erdman opened Thatcher's Coffee over eight years ago with the intention to create a warm, light-filled space for the community coupled with stellar products and genuine hospitality. Thatcher's mission is to serve others, inspire people to be their best selves and give back to the community. They believe by being a little extra nice and facilitating human connection that this will have a ripple effect of positive change in our own community. Erdman is now the sole-owner of Thatcher's and co-parents a slightly hilarious nine-year-old girl named Lucy. Jamie remembers returning to work, in her former position, and having to pump in a makeshift closet in the corner of the backroom. While building out Thatcher's Coffee she was still breastfeeding and considered creating a space where people with young kids would feel welcomed. Aligning with the values and vision of her shop, breastfeeding isn't even thought of as a "thing" as everyone should feel welcomed and unjudged. While not working or thinking about work, Jamie spends many hours running trails through forests and on mountains.
Melissa Martin MPH, is a program coordinator for Clark County Public Health. She works with worksites, schools and throughout the community to increase access to healthy foods and promote physical activity. She has over 12 years of experience leading worksite wellness efforts and providing technical assistance to employers implementing programs. She believes everyone deserves to work, learn and play in healthy environments.

In this role, she provides management of the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor program and promotes and implements breastfeeding support activities for Sea Mar at large.
