Description
Theme 2016: Personal and Team Development
Presentations will be loosely structured and highly interactive. Each will include a suggested advance reading, and a facilitated discussion that addresses the specific interests and concerns of group members. The series focuses on the most critical challenges faced by all organizational leaders—beginning with their own formation, and building upon that framework to address both personal and organizational values, and relationships with board and staff.
June 15 Team Building I: You and Your Staff
“Staff development” should be your biggest boon—not your biggest bane! What qualities characterize the most successful organizational teams? How do you attract, engage, inspire, acknowledge, and retain talented, committed, enthusiastic employees? What can be done when existing employee skill sets no longer serve the organization’s needs? This session will explore these and other issues critical to effective team building.
Facilitated by Tom Soma
A 1979 graduate of Notre Dame and long-time resident of Portland, Oregon, Tom served as Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington (RMHC®) for 15 years. During his tenure, RMHC was recognized as one of Oregon’s “Top 100 Non-Profits to Work For” (2009-13) and one of the state’s “Top 100 Green Businesses” (2010-12). In 2013, RMHC was a finalist for Oregon’s “Ethics in Business Award.” With four colleagues, he created and continues to participate in a mentoring program for the next generation of non-profit leaders. In recent years, Tom has published articles on leadership development, planned giving, and corporate—non-profit partnerships.
This is the third of four in a series. Each single session is a stand alone session, but part of a whole series.
