The Southwest Washington chapter of SCI has 2 main areas of focus: protecting hunters' rights and promoting wildlife conservation, mainly through education and promoting scientific management of game in what is known as the North American Model of Game Management. Formed from the many, independent and isolated Safari and Hunting Clubs of 40 years ago, Safari Club International was inaugurated in 1972 in an effort to provide a consolidated effort to conserve wildlife and traditional hunting. Today, interest in SCI's two primary missions has grown a worldwide network. Subsequent involvement and promotion of these missions is rooted in each of our 55,000 members, supported through each of our 190 membership chapters found across the globe, and put into action by government representatives and personnel both nationally and internationally. In this way, we can encourage an appreciation for nature and wildlife so that conservation efforts remain strong, while also fighting to protect our rich hunting heritage. Big changes can be achieved through the endeavors of many who are united in a mission ? the mission of Safari Club International. The funds raised by (Non-Profit) Safari Club of SW Washington go to suport conservation and education efforts in the Pacific NW- not just in Washington but Oregon and sometimes Idaho as well. A large number of our local members reside in Oregon. Our members contribute a portion of their hunter's harvest to the Sportsmen Against Hunger Campaign: with our partners Mayer's Custom Meats providing cut and wrap services for free, over 200 lbs of meat has been distributed this year to needy families in the Clark County area. Our Semper Gratus program recognizes outstanding service from our local veterans' community and this year's award resulted in a successful guided Elk Hunt for Mr John Kaiser. Our Wolf and Hall Memorial Fund recognizes promising youth through an essay competition and rewards a deserving winner with a Fin/Fur/Feather opportunity to participate in guided fishing or hunting trip each year. And finally, our volunteer Hunter Safety Education Instructors, in cooperation with the Oregon and Washington Departments of Fish and Wildlife provide firearms and hunting safety instruction to hundreds of men, women, and youth annually. Join us for our annual fundraising event to enjoy the camaraderie of the hunting community, have a chance to win great prizes, bid on charity auctions, receive an education in scientific conservation, and have a great dinner! Make sure you email stevem@cbcworldwidenw.com with subject line = "SCI Dinner" along with name, address, and contact details in the body of your email to receive your invitation and reserve your raffle packages!
