Description
Leadership Clark County (LCC), a nonprofit organization that develops effective community leaders to serve Clark County, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2017 Clark County Leadership Awards and to invite the public to the awards ceremony on Wednesday, October 25th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Camas Meadows Golf Club, 4105 NW Camas Meadows Drive, Camas, WA. The Clark County Leadership Awards celebrate leaders and leadership in Southwest Washington. The winners of this year’s awards are: LCC Outstanding Alumnus Award: Kate Budd. Kate is a member of the LCC Class of 2016 and is being recognized for her tireless work to inspire a shared vision of hope in our community. She is an active advocate for the homeless, having served as a Program Coordinator for Clark County Community Services and as a member of the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance’s Homeless Advisory Committee. Kate is currently the Deputy Director of the Council for the Homeless and the Co-Vice-Chair of the Coalition of Service Providers. Community Leader Award: Duane Sich. Duane is a founding member and former Executive Director of Friends of the Carpenter, a day shelter and activity center for the homeless, and is still active in their Wednesday services and woodworking activities. He is an active member of the Rotary Club of Greater Clark County, is a Paul Harris Fellow (a Rotarian honor acknowledging leadership and philanthropy), and currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors. A retired Presbyterian pastor, Duane continues to serve the church by performing funerals and weddings. Business Leadership Award: Filbin’s Ace Hardware. Mike and Denise Filbin, the owners of Filbin’s Ace Hardware, have made community service a priority of their business. They have supported nonprofits such as Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, Partners in Careers, Learning Avenues Child Care Centers, Share, and the Vancouver District of Boy Scouts of America with donations, participation in events, volunteering, and hosting events at their store. This year they hosted a successful chili cook-off competition that benefitted Cascadia Tech Foundation. Mike is also a member of the LCC Class of 2016. The Outstanding Alumnus Award honors an LCC alumnus, the Community Leader Award honors a community leader who is not an LCC graduate, and the Business Leadership Award honors an outstanding business that promotes community involvement and leadership. Congratulations to this year’s recipients! Appetizers will be provided at the awards ceremony, and drinks can be purchased at the bar. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased by visiting https://www.leadershipclarkcounty.com/programs/Clark-County-Leadership-Awards/tickets-2. About LCC Leadership Clark County is a nonprofit, nonpartisan civic leadership development program. Founded in 1993, participants are selected through a competitive application process and gain in-depth knowledge of our community and leadership skills that enable them to be more effective in their community involvement. The nine-month program runs September through May and is offered annually to individuals from Clark County's private, nonprofit and public sectors. Over 700 people have completed the program and serve our community as nonprofit board members, civic group leaders, business leaders and elected officials.
