Description
With a nod to the resilience and resourcefulness of the community amidst challenging financial times, Vancouver Mayor Timothy D. Leavitt will deliver the 2012 State of the City Address at a historic movie theater built by former Mayor J.P. Kiggins in the midst of the Great Depression.
Mayor Leavitt chose the Kiggins Theatre in downtown Vancouver, Washington because the newly renovated theater symbolizes the community's Pride, Progress and Possibilities - from the days of the Great Depression to today's Great Recession.
This Mayoral speech - Pride, Progress and Possibilities - will be interwoven with archival film clips and today's digital animation on the historic theater's big screen.
Highlights of the speech are expected to include a then-and-now look at Vancouver, USA, a progress report on key 2011 accomplishments, goals for Vancouver in 2012 and a look ahead to the future.
Seating is limited. E-mail RSVP only – cityhallrsvp@cityofvancouver.us.
Overflow crowd may watch a live speech broadcast near the theater at North Bank Artists Community Gallery, 1005 Main Street.
The event is free but the Mayor suggests a $5 at-the-door donation benefitting the Early Childhood Education & Assistance Program (ECEAP). Leavitt designated this charity because it offers early learning and after-school programs that help young children prepare for success in school and life. ECEAP services also help families overcome income barriers or other disabilities.
