Conflict Resolution events highlight October
Community Mediation Services (CMS), a City/County service that provides mediation services to Clark County residents, is working with community partners to provide a series of events and activities in October for Clark County's first annual celebration of Conflict Resolution Month.
The objective is to raise awareness and provide skill-building opportunities for creative, peaceful means of resolving conflict throughout Clark County. Highlights include a Conflict Resolution Resource Guide, which will include articles and tips on peaceful means of resolving conflict, a directory of practitioners, and a calendar of events.
Free Workshops:
Conflict Puzzle (it is recommended that participants attend all 4 workshops listed below)
· How To Really Listen, presented by Marcia McReynolds, The Listening Lady - Monday, Oct. 17,
7-9 p.m., Public Service Center, 6th Floor, 1300 Franklin St.
· Conflict Styles - Learn about different conflict styles and how to communicate in those difficult, but important, dilemmas. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 7-9 p.m., Fisher's Landing CTRAN Building, 164th St.
· Identifying Underlying Needs - A key to resolving disputes is to look at underlying needs, concerns, desires and fears. Learn how to identify our own and others' needs. Monday, Oct. 24, 7-9 p.m. Public Service Center, 6th Floor, 1300 Franklin St.
· Solving The Problem - Learn to generate possible solutions, evaluate options, develop a plan of action and deal with ''what ifs''. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 7-9 p.m., Fisher's Landing CTRAN Building, 164th St.
Don't Sweat the Small Stuff: Curbing Conflict by Learning to Chill - Presented by Shareefah Abdullah, Hot Ovations Communications Coaching and Training. Thursday, Oct. 20, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Council Chambers, City Hall, 13th & Broadway, Free.
