Description
The 12th Annual Uptown Village Street Festival, a celebration of our cultural community, is confirmed for the weekend of August 20-21, 2005. The street festival will feature the creative energy of more than 150 artists, musicians, vendors, and performers whose work will be showcased in numerous events and attractions over the course of two days in Vancouver's historic Uptown Village on Main Street.
Featuring nearly 100 vendor booths and a wide variety of activities for all ages, the 12th Annual Uptown Village Street Festival is one of Vancouver's most anticipated annual events. Stretching six blocks on Main Street from McLoughlin to Fourth Plain Boulevard, it is the largest free street festival in Southwest Washington.
The multicultural event includes everything from gourmet food and hand-crafted art, bistro-style cafes, and wine & beer gardens to a whimsical sidewalk chalk art competition and classic car cruise in, plus two days of non-stop entertainment on three stages, featuring the best of local musicians and cultural performances.
Highlights of this year's street festival include:
* The Children's Parade, in which neighborhood children are encouraged to use the free decorations supplied on the "vehicle" they ride, whether stroller, wagon, bike, skates, or board.
* Making its second annual appearance, Chalk on the Walk is a sidewalk chalk-art exhibitoin that draws both professional and amateur artists, adults and students alike. The astonishing quality of some of the art makes for a festival full of surprises, and the children's art is always fun. The Chalk on the Walk event will place hundreds of sticks of artists' chalk in the hands of dozens of professional and amateur visual artists to create spectacular compositions for the sidewalk exhibition. The one-of-a-kind public art swho takes place on the first day of the street festival, although the art is showcased on the sidewalks of Uptown Village for the whole weekend.
* Our Cultural Stage is a family-friendly attraction that will feature dance, music, and other cultural performances, many with interactive features.
* The Center Stage will offer the best of rock-n-roll bands.
* On the Main Stage, local entertainment acts of regional and national stature will perform jazz, funk, soul, and pop music.
* Sunday's feature is the Classic Car Cruise-In, co-hosted this year by the North County Cruisers. Over 300 classic cars are expected at this family-friendly event, including muscle cars, stock cars, custom cars, roadsters, foreign cars, and trucks, which will be on display all day Sunday.
More planned attractions include arts and crafts vendors, sidewalk sales, a pie-baking contest, a raffle with BIG prizes benefiting the Friends of the Carpenter, plus a host of other fun activities for children of all ages.
The 12th Annual Uptown Village Street Festival is free and open to the public.
